Friends – the 2007 Other Venice Film Festival is soon, and we want to get you caught up.

You might know that we doubled in size our first three years. It’s been great. We are now a large small festival, and this year we think we have the best selection of films yet. Some entries are pretty amazing.

Film Submissions ends this month.
This is your last chance to submit your film to this year’s festival. Your submission must be postmarked by Wed, Jan 31st. Get the application and details from our Website at www.othervenicefilmfest.com.

Pat Hartman Art at Rose Cafe

Hello good people,

If you're in Venice or anywhere close, stop by the Rose Cafe where the Virtual
Venice webslave, Pat Hartman, has some paintings in the current show. Of course
there is also plenty of other great artwork too, all thanks to the indefatigable
Karen Black, who has showcased the work of countless artists in this venue over
the years. This group of pictures will be there until Nov. 12 or maybe longer,
depending.

Graffiti wall recommendations from ABC Committee

The following recommendations from the Arts, Beautification and Culture committee will be presented to the VNC Board on September 19th regarding the Venice Garffiti Wall.

The VNC ABC Committee recommends that the board:

1) Support the retention of the Venice Graffiti Walls as an area of historic interest and a cultural resource, in concert with measures to mitigate vandalism and other negative impacts on the community.

2) Defines Venice as a "Tag Free Zone".

3) Support the hiring of monitors to locate tags on a daily basis and report the tags to the City of LA for removal starting with the Boardwalk area.

Pioneer Murals

Hi,

Is it true that the Pioneer will be torn down to build condominiums, and will the artwork on 5th ave will be destroyed? Who can I contact to find out? This would be truly devastating.

thanks,

Flo Young

WED, Sept 6. HOLLYWOOD UFO ('06, 68m) George Willis will be present to screen his bizarre journey into a community of self-proclaimed UFO investigators and abductees from East Hollywood to Nevada's Area 51. This intriguing doc contains exclusive interviews and declassified government footage which may shock and disturb you. Viewer discretion is advised. Plus: LE PETOMANE: PARTI AVEC LE VENT ('06,34m) Steve Ochs screens his full-blown historical drama about the legendary Moulin Rouge star Joseph Pujol and Dr. Marcel Baudouin. Pujol was gifted with a unique backside, which could take in and release air in measured increments thus producing amazing and humorous noises and songs. Dr. Baudouin was scientifically obsessed with Joseph's "instrument" and pursued him doggedly for many years, ultimately resulting in his undoing. 6pm preshow:Eric Sullivan live music, 7:30pm: Comic Tom Rhodes' irreverant slide show.

Public Art Forum Summary and Tally

Public Art Forum Summary April 25, 2006

This summary is based on the tally and written comments on the comment sheets. The actual comments are recorded and will be on our web site www.veniceartscouncil.org.
There were 96 comment sheets turned in, including 5 unsigned, 1 not a stakeholder.
The Yes, No, No Comment tally was based on whether or not the Yes or the No was marked. Sometimes, the comments conflicted with the yes or no, so rather than editorialize I decided to use only that marking for the count. If both yes and no were marked, I counted it as no comment.
