2007 Election Challenges Resolved by FDM

The City of Los Angeles Human Relations Commission has determined that the Sept 20, 2007 election of the VNC is valid despite three challenges .

Congratulations to all new board members!

HRC’s report concludes (in part) as follows:

CONCLUSION

After reviewing the challenges for the VNC September 20, 2007 election, and finding no deliberate nor systemic infractions, the Human Relations Commission of the City of Los Angeles declare this election valid and binding.

A look at the numbers of votes cast in this election, your fifth neighborhood council election, shows a slight decline of 58 voters from 2006. The Human Relations Commission hopes that the Venice Neighborhood Council and its Election Committee will continue their efforts at outreaching to all of their stakeholders and not be discouraged.

Dear All:

Attached is draft of letter to Legal Aid of Los Angeles in support of POWR

Rules of Order

See below the "Rules of Order" pre-amble read before BONC meetings. This seems like something we should consider adapting for VNC meetings as well.

Board of Neighborhood Commissioners (BONC) Rules of Order

Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the Board of Neighborhood Commissioner

Neighborhood Committee Members Wanted

The VNC is still looking for stakeholders to serve on our Neighborhood Committee. If you would like to represent your neighborhood on this important committee please contact the VNC secretary at secretary@grvnc.org .

Do you or a friend want to volunteer on a Venice Council Committee?

Hey Everyone:

As most of you know, I recently began my term on the Venice Council. I'm writing because I want to encourage those of you who work, live, or own property in Venice ("Venice Stakeholders") to apply to work on the Venice Council's new "Neighborhood Committee" and existing "Land Use and Planning Committee." For those of you who are not Stakeholders, I included you because of your ties to the Venice community, and its Stakeholders. So, please pass the word.

The Neighborhood Committee is brand new this year. It has been established to promote greater awareness of LA City resources in the nine Venice neighborhoods, and to more effectively bring neighborhood specific issues to the Venice Council's attention. This Committee will be a fantastic tool for making the Venice Council more responsive to specific neighborhood needs, but we need good people to apply for the nine available positions (1 from each "neighborhood").

The new board of officers will modify and approve final procedures at their October 30 meeting.

Ad-hoc committees renewal at Oct 30 meeting

[forwarded to all committee chairs by Yolanda Gonzalez, VNC
Vice President]

Dear Ad-Hoc Committee Chair,

According to Robert's Rules, all ad-hoc committees must have a specific task and must terminate when that task is accomplished.

At it's meeting on October 9, 2006, the VNC Executive Committee approved a Standing Rule which states: All ad-hoc committees which do not have a specific ending date shall expire as of the first meeting of a new Board of Officers term. This means that your committee will expire as of the
Board meeting on October 30, 2006.

As the Officer now assigned (by the new by-laws) to oversee all committees I am requesting that you attend the board meeting on the 30th (or send a committee representative) and be prepared to give a short oral (2-3 minute) report on your committee's accomplishments for the previous year and whther or not you feel that the committee should be re-established. If you feel that your committee still has unfinished business, please let the Board know what that is and how long you estimate your committee will need to fulfill its task.

Resignation of 2006/2007 Outreach Officer

Hi DeDe, Madame President,

I am writing to officially resign from my roles as the Venice Neighborhood Council Government Relations Officer and newly elected Community Outreach Officer. Recent employment opportunities require me to leave Venice for a long stretch of time, making it impossible for me to uphold my duties. I have enjoyed serving on the Venice Neighborhood Council this past year and working with the other board members. I do plan to return eventually and will likely get involved again at that time.

Please accept my resignation and alert the other board members of my decision. Unfortunately, my new job requires me to leave the country on Friday and I will not be able to attend the next board of officers meeting to say goodbye in person.
