6. NEW BUSINESS
A. We propose to add a sixth Sub-Committee - Communications & Outreach. Such a committee would both address publicity and serve as a liaison between the N C Arts Committee and other communities and cultural institutions in the L A area. In this context……..
B. We anticipate a highly focused agenda. Much of the evening will be devoted to a discussion with Marc Saltzberg, Venice N C Communications Officer, and other Board members of the N C regarding ways the Art Committee can best effect outreach to promote Venice as a creative arts capital.
B1. Review and approve proposed Arts Committee Revised Budget to include $600 per annum for N C Arts Committee generated grants.
Proposed: That the N C Arts Committee will attempt to help provide community listings for all Venice cultural events. That additionally, the N C may vote grants (*) not to exceed $25 to cultural events subject to approval by the N C Board of Officers. By doing this we could award those projects that the N C views to be of potential benefit to Venice the stamp of N C sponsorship. Though this amount is sufficiently small that it would not encourage undue funding demands to come before the Arts Committee, committee members should view these endorsements as significant, particularly as N C sponsorship might benefit those awardees who are seeking funding elsewhere.
B2. Distinctions between endorsement grants and listings.
One litmus test for sponsorship vs. listing might be single performance vs. more comprehensive project. For example, though theoretically we might vote to list Blankenship’s dance exhibition on June 7th (C6. Below) just as we might a single lecture or gallery exhibition, we might vote a to sponsor Blankenship’s Cabaret series (C3.below) a “Grant”, just as we might elect to endorse the multifaceted Venice Eco-Fest or annual Venice Art Walk.
Possible N C cultural listing vehicles in Venice included: Singular City , Venice Paparazzi, MY90291, Beachhead, Venice Forum, the Argonaut, (others?) whereas those events voted N C endorsement grants would be listed these and on the N C website calendar, as well.
C. APPLICATIONS FOR N C GRANTS AND LISTINGS ( * )Grant requests must conform to the criteria of DONE, for example, to be used for the purchase of materials.
C1. The newly created collaborative project between the Venice N C– Abbot Kinney Memorial Library and Pacific Resident Theatre (PRT) of a FREE four-week theatrical rehearsal period to directly benefit approximately 25-40 members of the Venice Library’s Young Adults Program. We invite representatives of other Venice non-profits to join in this conversation. (A proposal pending before the N C is attached.)
C2. A proposal by Mark Farina for Artists’ biodegradable trash containers for temporary placement during Venice events.
C3. Nadine Parkos will introduce the Venice Heritage Foundation.
C4. Monthly Cabarets at Blankenship – Mark Blankenship
C5. N C Barbecue poster and possibly Tee shirt - Mark Farina
C6. Voice in the Well Productions Chautauqua series – Eric Vollmer
C7. Cuban Ballet & Dance Exhibition on June 7 Mark Blankenship
Note that any Arts Grants which may be voted at this meeting will first be subject to the Budget Committee of the Venice Neighborhood Council approving this committee’s revised budget and further subject to approval of our recommendations by the N. C. Board of officers.
