LA City Planning Meeting on Design Standards for Abbot Kinney and Ocean Front Walk

January 31, 2008 Dear Venice Resident and/or Business Owner, The Los Angeles Department of City Planning invites you to participate in a small group discussion regarding potential design restrictions on commercial and industrial parcels located on Abbot Kinney Blvd and Ocean Front Walk. This is an opportunity for local business owners and members of the community to meet City staff to discuss the creation of possible design standards and or sign restrictions for development along Abbot Kinney and Ocean Front Walk and offer up ideas and suggestions regarding improvements along Abbot Kinney Blvd and Ocean Front Walk.

The meeting will be held: Wednesday, February 20, 2008, 6:00-8:00 pm Westminster Elementary School 1010 Abbot Kinney Blvd Venice, CA 90291

Abbot Kinney and Ocean Front Walk have a strong sense of local identity. These boulevards are inviting places to live and visit and are built upon a fabric of pedestrian-scaled independent businesses. Design standards could ensure that high quality urban design elements are reflected in the built environment with community oriented styles, scale, arrangement of structures and land uses. Design standards reinforce or encourage the establishment of strong commercial community centers by addressing storefront design, building orientation, building materials or color, parking lot placement, landscaping, lot size and signage. Your attendance at this community discussion is encouraged. Our next step in the process will be a larger community workshop, when we will seek broad community input.
