Town hall meeting on new boardwalk ordinance
Town hall meeting on new boardwalk commercial vending, noise ordinance
A town hall meeting Thursday, February 7th, on the proposed new version
of a City of Los Angeles ordinance regulating commercial vending and
noise along the Venice Beach Boardwalk is scheduled to be moderated by
Los Angeles City Councilman Bill Rosendahl.
The meeting is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Oakwood Recreation
Center, 767 California Ave., Venice.
The current boardwalk ordinance, which was approved in January 2006,
has been the subject of federal litigation. In an "unprecedented move"
welcomed by city officials, Federal District Court Judge Dean D.
Pregerson has been supervising a mediation process designed to produce a
compromise ordinance that allows the city to regulate noise and
commercial vending, while respecting and protecting First Amendment
rights, Rosendahl said.
Pregerson was expected to hold his final conference on the proposed new
ordinance Wednesday, January 30th. The ordinance will then go before the
Los Angeles City Council for approval on a date yet to be determined.
Rosendahl said he is intent on making sure the proposed new ordinance
is sufficiently vetted by the community prior to council consideration.
Accordingly, he will make the draft ordinance available on his Web site,
www .councilmanrosendahl.com/ as soon as the court releases it, and will
take public comment on the draft at the Town Hall meeting.
Rosendahl will moderate the community meeting, with staff from the City
Attorney's Office, Department of Recreation and Parks and Los Angeles
Police Department in attendance to answer questions.
That being said, I've attached a PDF document of the ordinance and you
can also visit the www.councilmanrosendahl website to obtain a copy.
