Neighbors,
A crime update is as follows. A hot prowl means someone is in the home when someone enters.
Last night about 4:30 am 2 (OGB) old time gangbangers climbed up a ladder from the beach side near Lighthouse and entered a home through an open door while residents were sleeping. They took a laptop, purse and other things. The owner heard them and either pushed a panic button or called 911. The cops were here in seconds. On arrival they observed 2 leaving the place. A foot chase was on. They got the 2 and recovered all the property. They don't know if someone was waiting in a car or not. There gang is called whitefence. They are one of the oldest gangs in Los Angeles. They are located from Hollenbeck division, which is east LA on the other side of the LA river. Thank God no one was hurt and the cops got here fast and did a great job searching the neighborhood.
I strongly suggest everyone on the beach side pull all ladders up and lock your doors and windows.
We have also had a few burglaries. Which is someone breaking into homes when no one is home and stealing things, and quite a few bikes stolen.
Friday at 1:00 pm we chased a Venice (OGB) stealing a bike on Catamaran and Speedway, to Venice and Ocean Ave. and lost him in between the houses. Male Hispanic 40-45, 5"6' gray hair, fairly clean cut tattooed from neck down.
This is going to be a very bad summer I am afraid. So a few tips to stay safe
keep bikes locked up, lock doors and windows, close all garages, leave NOTHING in your cars even for a moment.
Don't give anyone an excuse to commit a crime. If you see anyone who doesn't belong here or is looking into windows, garages or cars call police. People who are walking, biking, skate boarding, driving or on the beach late night drinking and stuff. Walking to and from the beach they steal and tag. Never mind there is a beach curfew. Give them a good description of person, a lic. plate and description of the car and leave a telephone # to call you back.
If you have been a victim of any type of a crime File a police report. This is done for 3 reasons. #1 they will know we have crime and we will get more patrol. #2 if they catch someone , they also might be responsible for other crimes and clear many cases. # 3 They maybe able to convict someone responsible for many crimes. Emergency (crime in progress) 911, Police 1-877 ask lapd (275-5273) Front desk for some reports 310-482-6334. 911 from cell phones goes to highway patrol so ask for LAPD. We are in Pacific division. They are trying to change the 911 system so be aware of that.
I believe some crime is a lay- away plan. They come here look around at cars, windows, doors or any property and put it on lay-away.They then come back for it in the middle of the night and take what they want.
I had a neighborhood watch meeting a few weeks ago which only a handful of people attended. I will be having another that I hope more neighbors show up.
