Greetings!

The mission of the Venice Neighborhood Council is to
improve the quality of life in Venice by building
community and securing support from the City of Los
Angeles for the resources needed to achieve our goals.

Please get involved in our community by joining your
neighbors at a VNC meeting. All are welcome.

The next VNC Board of Officers meeting will take
place on January 16th at 7pm at Westminster
Elementary School, 1010 Abbot Kinney Blvd. Please
come to meet your neighbors, express your opinion on
the issues before the board and learn more about
what's going on in Venice.


Tuesday's agenda includes the following items:

  • Request for VNC participation in a Venice Walkabout with
    LA City Planning Director Gail
    Goldberg.
  • Proposed Bylaws Amendments regarding making OFW
    and Arts Standing Committees
  • Proposed Bylaws Amendments regarding
    Resignations, Removals & Vacancies
  • Submission of a standing rule re; Appointment of
    a Fiscal Manager pro tempore.
  • New Overnight Parking Petition Submissions
  • Request for support of $1000.00 to participate
    in the Mayors Million Trees initiative
  • Request for support of $1700.00 for the VNC
    Envisionary Summit




The VNC Land Use and Planning Committee will be
meeting on January 24th at 6:30pm at Wesminster
Elementary School (1010 Abbot Kinny Blvd) to discuss
the following projects:
  • Fences and Hedges (general topic)
  • 2337 McKinley Ave - fence issue
  • other items yet to be determined



The Neighborhood Committee has a mandate to promote
greater awareness of available City resources and
services and act as a conduit between the Board and
Venice neighborhoods, assisting in community
outreach and bringing neighborhood issues to the
attention of the Board.


Currently 3 of the 9 committee members have been
appointed, but vacancies still exist for the
following neighborhoods: area 1 (Ballona Lagoon
West Bank), area 2 (Ballona Lagoon East Bank), area
3 (Silver Strand), area 6 (North Venice), area 8
(Oxford Triangle) and area 9 (East of Lincoln).

Helene Bivas from the LA City planning office will
be coming to Venice to discuss the new Small Lot
Subdivision ordinance and how it impacts the Venice
community and relates to the Venice Specific Plan.

The Education Committee will hold their next meeting
at 7pm on Thursday, January 18th at the President's
Row room of Extra Space Storage at 658 Venice Blvd.


All stakeholders interested in education issues in
Venice are encouraged to attend. Please fill out
the online
agenda request form
if you have an issue that
you wish the Education Committee to consider at
future meetings.

Film Submissions end January 31st! This is your last
chance to submit your film to this year's festival.
Your submission must be postmarked by Wed, Jan 31st.

The Santa Monica Baykeeper, a local Venice
environmental non-profit, needs your help! The
Baykeeper is conducting a training day for divers to
help
with their ongoing kelp restoration project.


Training will take place on Thursday, February 8th
at 7pm at Eco Dive Center, 4027 Sepulveda Bvld,
Culver City. The Baykeeper needs rescue certified
divers and you will also need CPR, First Aid and
Emergency Oxygen Administration certifications.

The VNC offers many opportunities to get involved in
your community through volunteer work. Please
consider joining a committee that interests you,
starting a committee or helping the Board with our
ongoing organizational tasks.
