Greetings!

The mission of the Venice Neighborhood Council is to
improve the quality of life in Venice by building
community and securing support from the City of Los
Angeles for the resources needed to achieve our goals.

Please get involved in our community by joining your
neighbors at a VNC meeting. All are welcome.

The next VNC Board of Officers meeting will take
place on October 17th at 7pm at Westminster
Elementary School, 1010 Abbot Kinney Blvd. Please
come and thank the outgoing board members for their
service to the community.

Tuesday's agenda includes the following items:

  • Funding Request to contribute $20,000 towards
$88,000 project to restore two Venice murals
  • Proposed Commercial Construction Moratorium
    Motion
  • 68 N Venice (Commissary) beer/wine license
    request
  • 1101-1109 Venice Blvd. Apartment Project
    Approval

The next meeting of the Land Use and Planning
Committee will take place October
25
. The LUPC meetings in November have been
canceled due to a busy Board schedule. New LUPC
committee members will be appointed at the November 21
Board of Officers meeting based on an application
process to be approved at the October 30 Board
meeting. Draft procedures will be discussed at a

Rules and
Elections meeting
scheduled for October 23rd.

Projects slated for consideration on October 25th
include:

  • 600-604 Venice Blvd (Mixed use project)
  • 300-305 Venice Way (Small lot subdivision)

The Inauguration of the new VNC Board of Officers
will take place on October 30th at 7pm at Westminster
Elementary School, 1010 Abbot Kinney Blvd. Please
come and welcome our new board members.

As per the VNC Bylaws at the first meeting of the
new board the following will also take place:

  • Election of 4 Administrative Committee Members
  • Develop and approve process for election of Land
    Use and Planning Committee members

  • Develop and approve process for election of
    Neighborhood Committee members

  • Fill vacant board seat(s) by appointment

Due to the recent resignation of L.J. Carusone from
the VNC Board due to work relocation the new VNC
Board will be tasked with appointing an outreach
officer to replace L.J. at their October 30th meeting.

All interested stakeholders should contact the VNC
secretary to place your name on the list of
candidates for appointment to this position.

This officer is responsible for increasing
participation in Neighborhood Council activities,
chairs the Community Outreach and Events Planning
Committee and organizes quarterly stakeholder
meetings and special events.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Councilmember Janice
Hahn are hosting a Day of Service in Watts.

Please join us in this effort to focus on the needs
of Watts and celebrate its culture and history.

Cleanup on November 18th from 8am to 12 pm

Join us in cleaning the streets, planting trees,
removing graffiti, mural activities and much more!

Free lunch. Fun for the whole family.

The VNC board would like to express our sincere
thanks to Dante Cacace for his tireless work as the
facilities volunteer for the Board. Dante has
helped coordinate the reservation of meeting
facilities and the setup and breakdown of the audio
system for over a year.

Dante will not be able to perform these duties any
longer and so the Board desperately needs a new
volunteer who can help our president, DeDe, and
other board members that need to make facilities
arrangements. Please email president@grvnc.org
if you are interested in this position.

The VNC offers many opportunities to get involved in
your community through volunteer work. Please
consider joining a committee that interests you,
starting a committee or helping the Board with our
ongoing organizational tasks.

Sincerely,

Richard Myers, Communications Officer
