Expo Line to Santa Monica in 9 years?
Submitted by Richard Myers on Fri, 12/22/2006 - 10:19am.
The Expo Line planning seems to be coming along nicely. It’s too bad that no plans bring the expo directly into Venice, but the alignment option to Venice/Sepulveda comes the closest.
There are some good maps and interesting intersection details here: http://www.buildexpo.org/images/Attachment_D_Expo_RFP_Pre-Proposal_081406.pdf
I hope they can keep this one on schedule; would love to have light rail to downtown in my lifetime.
Perhaps we could get a shuttle line that connects the expo light rail to Venice.
Anyone want to volunteer to chair a VNC transportation committee? would be nice to have someone monitoring the progress of this project.

Main Street rail?
Comments from Gerard Motola below:
When I'm in Venice, I imagine how great it would be if there were a light rail line there. Not on Lincoln, but right near the beach on Main St. The main Venice station would be at Windward Circle, and to the north it would follow Main St until Rose, and the parking lot there would become a station. The parking on the east side of Nielsen could become a ROW, but there is a gap between where it starts and Rose and then once it gets close to the Santa Monica Civic Center where it would probably need a tunnel. This end would connect with the completed Expo Line.
Going south from Windward Circle the line would go on Grand Blvd to Venice, and then follow Venice to Lincoln, where it would turn south towards Marina Del Rey, LAX, and then joining the Green Line to the South Bay. It could also use the old ROW that goes by Admiralty Way, but that is built on between Washington and Venice and would require street closures.
Stations on this line could include:
Downtown Santa Monica/Expo terminus
SM Civic Center
Nielsen/Ocean Park
Main/Rose
Venice Beach/Windward Circle
Venice/Abbot Kinney
Venice/Lincoln
Marina Del Rey (Lincoln/Maxella and/or Lincoln/Mindanao)
Playa Vista (Lincoln/Jefferson)
Westchester (Lincoln/Manchester)
LAX (Bus Center & Terminals)
Green Line stations in El Segundo and beyond
