[grvnc] June 27 Election Still Scheduled

Grass Roots Venice Neighborhood Council Update
##############################################

The GRVNC board voted yesterday to approve
streamlined procedures for the scheduled June
27th election. However, a motion to effectively
amend the bylaws to postpone the election, as
requested by the LA Department of Neighborhood
Empowerment, failed to get the necesary 2/3
super-majority vote.

The Sunday, June 27 Election will no longer have
a vote-by-mail component. Therefore, all
stakeholders will need to vote in person at
the Westminster School between 10AM and 4PM.

Also, the deadline for declaring yourself a
candidate has been extended until Monday,
June 21. Email candidates@grvnc.org for
information about how to jump into the race,
it is not too late. Or, come to the GRVNC
"Meet the Candidates" event on that day,
Monday, June 21st and declare there.
Everybody who is candidate that night will
be put on the printed ballot.

All voters and candidates will need to show
identification that proves they are a GRVNC
stakeholder. The following credentials that have a
GRVNC (Venice) address will be accepted:

a. Legal document such as a driver's license or
   California state ID card
b. Business Card
c. Imprinted check
d. Recent utility bill
e. Property tax bill
f. Business license
g. School ID
h. A homeless person may submit an appointment card
or a note with an address indicating services
received or given in GRVNC boundaries.
i. Proof of a P.O. box in the GRVNC Boundaries,
including mail addressed to such P.O. box.

Also, an individual who is not able to produce one of
the credentials listed inabove may instead provide on
the Stakeholder Declaration Form a description
of the location of the stakeholder's activity in
Venice that does not have an address (e.g., "on the
boardwalk between Thornton Ave and Dudley") and what
specific time their activity takes place in the
following week. This is a provisional credential to be

verified after the election.

Polls are open from 10 AM - 4 PM, June 27, 2004

Westminster Elementary School
1010 Abbot Kinney Blvd
Venice

All the candidates have been invited to give a one to
two minute long statement to other GRVNC stakeholders
about why they should be elected to the board. Last
year this event was held on election day. Also, a

least, the Presidential Candidates.
