Grass Roots Venice Neighborhood Council Update
##############################################
Last night the board failed to amend the bylaws to
extend both the terms of office and to postpone the
June 27 election. Both items received below the
required two-thirds majority vote to pass.
That means that the June 27 Election is still
scheduled to occur, however, with slight differences.
First, Paul Ryan, GRVNC Government Relations Officer,
was appointed chair of the elections committee last
night. Second, the election procedures will be re-
approved by the board at the next meeting
on Monday, June 14, at 7:00PM at the Vera Davis
Center.
It is expected that the candidate's declaration
deadline will be extended, perhaps until as late as
June 21 to give those stakeholders who were waiting
to declare their candidacy another chance to be
on the printed ballot. Email your name, address,
and phone number to candidates@grvnc.org.
Also, please download the Stakeholder Declaration Form
http://www.grvnc.org/NewSite/2004StakeholderDeclarationFormRevised.doc
and return it and a copy of one of the credentials
to the GRVNC offices at the Vera Davis Center.
The center has a copy machine there that you can use.
You can also email a digital picture of your
credential
to candidates@grvnc.org.
Be sure to visit

candidate information available so far.
In other action, the board voted to ask the Department
of Neighborhood Empowerment and the City Attorney to
sponsor mediation for election and other issues
in GRVNC. The board also approved the sending of
a community impact statement in support of SB921,
"Health Care for All" bill, to the LA City
Council who is scheduled to vote soon on voicing
support for the proposed new state law.
For those of you who would like more info about the
single-payer health insurance bill the City Council
may consider supporting, here is a link for
the Health Care for All website with a lot of
information.
