PETITION TO WITHHOLD APPROVAL OF PLAYA VISTA PHASE TWO PROJECT

UNTIL THE ADVERSE IMPACTS OF PHASE ONE ARE PROPERLY MITIGATED

Whereas the planned First Phase of the Playa Vista project is only partially built and its full

impacts on communities surrounding the project such as Venice have not yet been felt; and

Whereas the planned Second Phase of the Playa Vista project will create massive additional

unmitigated adverse impacts on the quality of life in our community; and

Whereas the traffic created by the Playa Vista development, resulting in 80,000 additional

vehicle trips jamming the 405 Freeway, Lincoln Blvd, and Walgrove and Palms Avenues,

shall cause a significant increase in new traffic cutting through our neighborhoods on smaller

local streets; and

Whereas the impacts to our schools and air and water quality shall have a permanent and

detrimental impact on our communities; and

Whereas the immoral and illegal destruction of over 400 Native American Gabrielino/Tongva Indian

burial sites must be stopped, and the sacred burial grounds be preserved; and

Whereas the City of Los Angeles has not analyzed the use of the approximately 200 acres of

undeveloped historical wetlands remaining in "Area D" to be used:

(a) as badly needed open space;

(b) as treatment wetlands to cleanse water in Ballona Creek and in Santa Monica Bay;

(c) and to recharge the aquifer below for beneficial use;

We, the undersigned stakeholders implore:

The Los Angeles City Council to withhold approval of the second phase Playa Vista

development project, until such time as the first phase of the development has been

completely built out and occupied, the impacts fully analyzed and properly mitigated; and

Los Angeles City Councilwoman Cindy Miscikowski to convene a town hall meeting in

August 2004, in her district, at a convenient time and location for working people; and

The Los Angeles City Council to hold its final hearing on the second phase Playa Vista

development project, in the 11th District, and at a convenient time and location for

working people.
