Minutes GRVNC Executive Committee continuation

EC Committee members present: Sheila Bernard, Tom Omeara, Paul Ryan,
Jim Smith, Alice Stek
Other GRVNC Board members present: Suzanne Thompson, Dennis Hathaway,
for part of meeting: Bonnie Cheeseman, Sabrina Venskus, DeDe Audet.
Approx 18 other stakeholders in attendance

Called to order at 18:07.
Not that this is a continuation of the June 24 meeting, which was
recessed, to continue today.

1. Public comment by
DeDe Audet - wants to make motions regardless of Brown Act constraints
Bonnie Cheeseman - plans to resign if elections are not postponed
Marta Evry - wants to know if elections will be held June 27
Joel Shields - opposed to a new election in 90 days.

2. Bonnie Cheeseman resigns as District 2 representative.

3. Casey Peters, nominated by Jim Smith, is appointed as the Independent
Elections Administrator, by consensus of the EC members present.

4. Sabrina Venskus, nominated by Alice Stek, appointed as the Elections
Committee Chair by consensus of the EC members present.

5. Elections:
Jim Smith reports he learned from discussion with the Westminster School
staff and vice-principal that people called the school, pressuring them
to not allow the elections to be held there on June 27. He reports that
the school vice-principal or other authority said someone claiming to be
John Davis called the school, gave a fake telephone number and stated he
would bring 10 busloads of protesters to the school to protest the
elections.
Jim Smith reports that the school or the School Board received calls
complaining about the use of the parking lot, which will now be closed
for weekends the entire summer, depriving the school of the extra
funding generated by parking fees. The EC will ask the GRVNC Board to
send a letter to the School Board to encourage the continued use of the
school parking lot on summer weekends to generate funds for the school.

Motions for agenda items for 6/28 meeting:
Motion to schedule new election in approx 90 days, with absentee
balloting, as part of a discussion with DONE regarding certification.
Motion to mediate terms of new election and other matters.
New election procedures for a possible September election to be drafted.
Motion for new stakeholder election in July to ratify the above
Approval of next quarter's budget.
Authorize Outreach Committee to agendize and budget $3500 for the next
Town Hall meeting.

Public comment from:
Dennis Hathaway - still wants to postpone the election.
John Davis - election need to take place as scheduled; we need to answer
not to people making threats, not to DONE, but to the stakeholders.
John Michel - Venice needs to secede from LA.
DeDe McCrary - we need to have the election as scheduled - we will not
be intimidated.
David Buchanan - not all the people opposing the election are bad.
Sheila - civility is needed, we need to work together.
John Davis - focus on things we have in common.
John Michel - Venice children need to see leadership and interest from
GRVNC.
