4/30/03 Spring Town Hall


Opening
1. Welcome - Tisha Bedrosian, President


2. Introductions – Done later in the meeting. The Board was asked to come forward and introduced to those present.

3. Captain Wally Graves, Pacific Division, LAPD: Captain Graves and several officers made presentations. The community asked questions. MAY WANT TO INSERT NAMES OF THE OFFICERS AND CONTACT INFORMATION.


Nominations from the Floor for Elections


4. Elections Event - Co-Facilitators Carolyn Ward and Greg Fitchitt

The following people were nominated: At-Large – Lydia Ponce, Amy Nation, Carolyn Ward, Laddie Williams, Rick Feibusch, Sheila Bernard, Phyllis Des Verney, Susanne Thompson, Debra Gibson, Tajuan Valentine, Phil Raider. Communications – Chris Bedrosian and John Davis. Secretary – Elena Popp. Treasurer – Jeff Miles and Jim Smith.



Committee Updates


5. Traffic — Rick Feibusch: General statements regarding traffic congestion. This is the issue where we most interface with the rest of the City. An Ad Hoc Committee has been formed. All are invited to attend. They meet Monthly NOT SURE WHEN at 3:30PM at El Azteca over drinks and have loads of fun. This is an extension of the Mobility Action Committee.


6. Introducing Public Safety — Lynn Hurst: General Statements regarding the need to form this committee. In an emergency, our first source of help is our neighbor. We need to be prepared to help our neighbors. The Committee would address the need for neighbors to have basic emergency preparedness skills such as first aid and CPR and would also provide child safety courses, and training for babysitters.


7. Parking — Bonnie Cheeseman: Summary of the report that was made at the 3/24/03 GRVNC Board Meeting. See those notes of that report. Highlights of this report include: 1) are investigating further re permit parking; 2) have identified parking lots; and 3) are exploring use of the state Santa Monica lot and a shuttle to Venice. Next meeting is May 14 at the Vera Davis Center.


8. Land Use & Planning — Darryl DuFay: Thank you to the 230 people who care enough about the community to attend the April 21st meeting regarding the Lincoln Center. Thank you to the Committee for their hard work; they had 5 meetings regarding the Lincoln Center project. The community response to the developer’s proposal provides the developer an opportunity to re-think his plans.


9. Flyer Distribution — Chris Bedrosian: Request that folks sign up so that we can start doing outreach. Sign-up sheet circulated.


10. Conservation — John Davis: Next meeting is May 29 at the Venice library. John Davis read the Committee’s statement of purpose which is on the website at LINK. He highlighted that the Committee has taken a position against widening Lincoln Blvd., reducing pollution and addressing tree trimming and sidewalk improvement.
